It's been a quiet week over here. No running since Tuesday. I was hit hard with a cold - crippling sinus pressure and blowing (literally!) through more than one box of Kleenex a day. I don't think I have any skin left on my nostrils! I was pretty much the last one at work to get sick this winter, so I guess the prize is that it holds on extra long?
It's a bummer because I started off last week with so much motivation! On Monday I ticked off 6 x 800s on my treadmill and on Tuesday I had a fun run through some flurries with my neighbor. By Wednesday morning I was miserable. I barely managed to make it through work the rest of the week, and each night when I got home looked something like this:
Whoever made the decision that you can still run if your illness is from the neck up is a fool! There was no way I was running through any of that. I laugh at the thought. I am finally feeling somewhat human today, so hopefully I'll be able to at least do an easy run tonight. I really need to start logging more than 11 miles of running per week if I want to do any of my upcoming races.
Speaking of races, I signed up for the South Shore 1/2 Marathon on April 7th! I get to run with Kim from ilaxSTUDIO who was one of my running buddies during the amazing 50k this past fall. I'm so excited to see her again! Registration set me back a whopping $13.99 (including processing fee). How can you beat that deal? I'm pretty sure I'll spend more on gas getting to and from race.
What's the lowest price you've paid for a race entry? This half might be the winner. There is also a 5m race in my hometown every year that is only $15. I love it!
Do you run when you are sick? Nope, giant wuss over here!

I usually don't run when I'm sick because I like to get better as quickly as possible. I'm with you on that one! Also, it's hard to run when you can't breath, so that's an issue too.
ReplyDelete$14 is a kickass race price! I need to find races like this.
Glad you are feeling better this week! I'll run if I feel sick, but just easy miles and only if my stomach feels okay. If I'm seriously worn out, though, rest is best!
ReplyDeleteGeez I thought my $20 10k was cheap. #ShowOff
ReplyDeleteI usually only have the energy to run towards the end of a cold...that is if I can actually breathe!
ReplyDeleteI usually do my cross training if I have a cold, & skip running. Today I'm mostly recovered from a cold myself, so I'm goign to try for 4 miles. :-)
ReplyDeleteTHe cheapest race I've done was a $15 trail race. It was great, although parking was a ripoff at $10!
I have a hard enough time running while healthy (still a beginner over here) so I doubt I'd run while sick, right now at least. Awesome job on finding a race at only $14!
ReplyDeleteMy running club has a number of free races (5K to half marathon distances), so most of the time I pay nothing!!! :)
ReplyDeleteI usually enjoy running, so if I'm sick and REAAAAAAAAALLY don't want to run, I don't make myself.
LOL! We probably will spend more on gas! I can't wait! I once spend $5 on a 5K. But this race is the next cheapest.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better. I hate it when I am blowing my nose so much it feels raw! :(
Man that's a super cheap half. I actually did a $5 half marathon in December, but it was a mistake. The had a promo code that was supposed to be good for $5 off, but when I registered it gave me the race for $5 instead...oops their loss my gain :)
ReplyDeleteI just did a $20 10 miler :). I do not train when I'm sick. EVAH.
