This time around I have some secret weapons: better training and a running buddy! During our several hours of running together on The Longest Day, Mattie and I decided we just had to run the marathon together this fall. (It's easy to make those decisions when you're half delirious) It will be the second time running this course for each of us and since we are similar paces and genuinely enjoy each other's company, it was meant to be! Training went well and we were even able to do two of our long runs together: a 17 miler and a 20 miler. Both were great.
Check out the awesome matching shirts we made to wear on the course:
I'm not ashamed, I like when spectators cheer for me by name.
We ordered these from the amazing folks at Family Fan Club! Check them out if you ever need custom gear. They are so great to work with!
Naturally, we have some race goals:
A Goal: Under 4:20, 9:55 pace. I think we kind of picked this out of the blue since it was a nice round number and a 10 minute/mile pace sounds reasonable, but just under it sounds kick ass.
B Goal: New PRs! My marathon PR from Green Bay this spring is 4:47 and Mattie's is only a minute different, so if we come in under that we will both be happy!
Of course there are the other customary goals: wake up on time, bodygilde everything, don't poop my pants, don't puke, have fun, high five people and finish in time to watch most of the Packer game. Did I miss anything?
If you're going to be at the race and want to meet up with some pretty awesome people including moi, Sarah, Alicia, and Jess, meet us in front of the Pacesetter's tent at 6:30am. IF YOU DARE! Muahahahah
